in Love.

i’m simply in Love right now.

jax, your 10,000 watt smile steals my heart about 537 times a day. and the fact that you created your own sign to tell me you want to play the “wheels on the bus” app also makes my heart want to leap out of my chest.  and of course, our dance parties in the car.  it was totally worth it today when the starbucks dude at the drive through said, “i saw your dance moves when you thought i wasn’t looking”.

mads, the fact that you hold your hands over your eyes to go to sleep makes me want to get you an eye mask.  unfort. that would be frowned upon in the proverbial baby “sleep safely” communities.  and the fact that you prefer to stand up.  at 5 months.  and i love that you bust out laughing when your brother or ella dog heads towards you.  you are one social creature, my dear, and i love that you are always ready for a party.

husband.  we are setting our alarms tonight for 1:45am so we can see the lunar eclipse.  of course, it’s midnight and we still aren’t in bed and i’d much rather stay UP and watch a movie, but alas, i’m sure we’ll settle in bed right at 1am and then i’ll want to kill you for waking me up right when i get to that good part of my dreams.  i love you for that.

just sayin’.

dear husband: happy 30th to you!

well my love, you’ve officially  not young anymore.

30 years old = a wife, a mortgage, a doggie and 2 kiddos – are you tired yet!?

there are SO many things i love about you, but i wanted to highlight 30 . . .

1.  those big blue eyes.

2.  the amount of TOMS shoes in your closet right now.

3.  your need for alone time {which usually means playing games on your iphone}

4.  coffee time at 3 {with me?!}

5.  your love for people

6.  your need for meat at every meal besides breakfast {chicken IS the most effective form of protein, you know . . . }

7.  your ability to dream with me and let me fly my kite

8.  you are my babies’ daddy!

9.  love your generous heart.  LOVE it.

10. you consider dinner and wine with great friends “church”, and that’s a beautiful thing.

11.  love your hilarious laughter at all things doobybrain

12.  your love {and respect} for your family

13.  how wonderful you are at your job

14.  you try to come home and eat lunch with me and the kids every day! {maybe just because it’s free, but hey, i’ll take it . . . }

15. the fact that you keep me cool. thanks for always keeping me abreast of all things new.

16. that you brush your teeth for the full amount of time {no less!!} that sonicare provides.

17. your ability to tune everything out and just relax.

18. love that you need your sandwiches pressed in order to eat them

19. LOVE how you wrestle with jackson

20. your passion for music

21. your crazy dance moves

22.  your uncanny ability to recite entire quotes after only hearing them once

23. that you remember all the details of a movie you saw 10 years ago {and your patience with me asking a million questions}

24. your salt and pepper hair

25. how you love on “the fellas”

26. your love of history

27. love that we call/text/email throughout the day when we are apart

28.  love that you can’t wait to take jackson to school every morning

29.  that without fail, on date night you say, “how about La Duni!?” . . . every time.  glad it’s our favorite restaurant in Dallas!

30.  you still love me with all my faults and quirks.

happy 30th to the love of my life.  i’m so thankful to spend every day with you.

dear husband.

there are so many things i’ve loved about you this week.

1.  i declared memorial day weekend as “project weekend” around here and you went right along with my plan.  you didn’t complain one bit and successfully hung all sorts of things perfectly level and did lots of attic maneuvering.  thank you for not making me lift any boxes.  would have been awkward with the belly.

2.  when we pulled up to Lowes, you busted out your movie announcer voice that i love and quoted the entire Lowes commercial, complete with “Let’s Build something Together.”  i love the movie announcer voice.  if your practice starts to dwindle, i know a guy who knows a guy . . . and we could probably get you on some commercials with your rock star man voice.

3.  you went to central market for a few items and sent me a text that said, “i’ve found something that is going to change your life . . . “.  i was giddy until you got home, dreaming of what it could be.  you gave me your sneaky eye and suspicious grin and pulled out a huge block of cheese that you declared i could grill, burn and eat!  i adore you for knowing i love nearly burnt cheese.

4.  we saw some friends at church and thought it would bless them to have them over for a spontaneous memorial day bbq that night.  i took the liberty of inviting them over, and when we got in the car, i said, i hope that was okay with you!?  and you just smiled and said, “babe, i love having people over.  i told you years ago, you never have to ask me.  our house is always open for friends.” i love your love of life and friendship and i’m so glad we can open up our home together to anyone and everyone and you enjoy entertaining as much as i do.

5.  you loved our son dearly this weekend.  with the belly beginning to overtake my entire body, it’s so hard for me to even bend down and carry jackson all day.  you completely took over jackson duty and let me relax the bump a bit while you got him in and out of the car seat, messed with the stroller and battled him on the changing table.  i think miss madelyn thanks you too . . . (we are still working on the spelling of madalyn, so i just tested out typing madelyn . . . i think it could be nice . . . )

dear husband.

something about our dance parties just puts me in a great mood after a long day.

i love when you round the corner dancing to come into our main living area and you throw down your bag and bust out  . . .

usually we hold the Dude to jam out, but tonight, he seemed like he wanted a little extra freedom, so you set him down on the dining room table.

watch out ladies, jackson’s got some MOVES!

thanks for dropin’ it like it’s hot tonight.

dear mr. may.

i love that at the end of the night, we go to our respective “offices” and dork out on our computers for a minute.  we catch up on the day’s worth of emails and blog posts and make sure each other are current on all the happenings around the world.

since we can’t see each other from where we sit, we have adapted very sophisticated forms of communication: shouting or emailing each other from a room away.

sometimes i’ll hear you cracking up and i’ll shout out, “What are you watching!?” so i can join in on the goodness but you don’t respond . . .

and that can only mean one thing:  Bose Sound Cancelling Ear Phones.  that’s when i know i have to email you to get your attention, because heaven forbid i GET UP from my chair to come see for myself.

hubby, i simply adore our email flirts.  it’s something magical to look forward to at the end of the day.

dear husband.

this weekend we celebrated being married for 5 years. {okay, i know we already celebrated in NYC, but you know i love to KEEP celebrating}.

friday: we collapsed in bed after a long week and started listing off all our aspirations for the weekend {read: home projects}.

it was suddenly hysterical and we laughed and laughed in the dark as we remembered each thing we’ve promised to do by now. it was so much fun trying to keep our giggles quiet so we didn’t wake up jackson . . .

saturday: we woke up and went to breakfast with the Dude.  you asked me which year of marriage has been the best and we had a wonderful chat about where we have been and where we are headed.  i love cheesy eggs and endless cups of coffee with you.

sunday: we bailed on service day at church {sorry watermark!} and tried out a new church, just for fun.  we both had the exact same thoughts about the service/experience and that is one of my favorite things about you.  some days it seems we are so knit together that we are the same person, and other days you challenge my thinking with a completely different perspective.  keep it up, my love.

i simply can’t believe that i’ve been Mrs. May for 5 years.  i’m far more in love with you today than i was on our wedding day . . .

you let me fly my kite, and catch me when i fall. you help me laugh at myself. you never judge the half drunk coffee mugs on my desk. you take my car in to fix the tires because you know i hate doing that sort of thing. you think i look the prettiest without any makeup. you leave just enough cookie dough for me to eat when you make chocolate cookies. you rarely complain about anything and it makes me want to do the same. you always make sure i have a glass of water by my bed. you call and check on me and jackson throughout the day when you are at work.  you always join my dance parties without shame.

thank you for loving me exactly as i am.  i never feel more myself than when i am with you.
